Mom Life: Making My House a Home- Tackling the Entryway

Hello Everyone, once again! So, first I would like to start off by saying there is a YouTube video of us decorating our entryway! OMG, I know, I actually have the video up already for once *gasp*

I’m just as surprised as you

Here is the link for that video. As always I do recommend reading this article, as well, as I will be going into more detail here 🙂 Anyway, lets get to it! As previously stated here, I wanted to start with the entry way as to not overwhelm myself and I ended up doing a little bit more by also segueing into the small non decorated part of the hall way. Pictures below:

In the previous article I mentioned how I wanted to go with an art deco theme, in which I feel I am staying in that realm, but I’ve always had a thing for Victorian items, goth things, nature, and gold. Now, I still don’t know exactly what theme that falls under, but I think the end look works. I decided I wanted to use Asian inspired items or decor as my boho element (in the previous article I ended up finding out that my “lewk” was art deco/boho). In so I ened up find this item here on amazon:

Husband not included 😛

It is a gold colored metal frame with Ginkgo leaves as the focal point- quite nice for a reasonable price. Now, I also like the idea of making my house appear bigger than it is- not in an ego-centric way, but in a “a spend a lot of time here so let’s trick my mind into thinking it’s bigger for my mental health sake”, got it? Cool. So, how do you make a room appear bigger? Mirrors. I decided I wanted to place a mirror behind the metal frame, preferably one that fit exactly…and that was the hard part. So, in case you didn’t know mirrors are expensive plus it gets quite difficult to find one in a good price range AND a certain dimension.

Seriously #same

So, what’s a lady not looking to spend 100’s on a mirror that honestly is not the primary focus point? Mirrored plates. They are the same ones you see at weddings for center pieces and what not.

Yes, that’s my toddler without pants. She was also helping :), but the point is-mirrored plate.

Now, how did we get those onto the wall? Sticky tape. Everything got the sticky tape treatment.

So, what was the end result? Well, I really encourage you to watch the video, but here are the before and after:

I would say there you have it, but I did mention I segued into the undecorated part of the hallway, right? Well, you also may notice that I bought a little brown entry way table (*cough*, watch the video) and my family had decided that this is where their shoes were going- I was not about that. That was a bit too much congestion for me in the Entry way so I decided to look for something…and I found this bench.

Also, you may be wondering about the gold coat hooks? The link for those can be found here 🙂

Well, there you have it! Whew, it was work, a lot of online shopping, but two areas of my home are now not completely bare. Yes, it’s starting to look like people actually live here and haven’t just moved in. I also started on the hall bathroom a bit and our master bathroom, but there’s really much to “do” there besides, clean the counters and organize a few things, but what the heck I’ll throw in the hall bathroom picture too. 🙂

I didn’t take a before picture of the bathroom, frankly, because I didn’t think of it.

oh, woe is me

In the end it’s the little things that matter and I’m happy to say…

1. At least I’m finally doing THE things and

2. My house is starting to feel like My Home 🙂
